When Jeep redesigned the Wrangler for the 2018 model year, it introduced increasingly comfortable seating, a more powerful standard V6 and an optional turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The latter combines increased output with enhanced fuel economy, helping the Unlimited earn up to 22 mpg
combined.
At the outset, two powertrain options were available for these used Jeep Wrangler Unlimited models:
- Standard 3.6L V6 (285 horsepower, 260 lb-ft of torque) + standard six-speed manual or optional eight-speed automatic transmission
- Turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine (270 hp, 295 lb-ft) with mild hybrid eTorque system + eight-speed automatic
And a few engines were added to the lineup as the model years wore on, each of which was paired with the aforementioned eight-speed automatic:
- 2020: turbo 3.0-liter diesel V6 (260 hp, 442 lb-ft)
- 2021: 6.4L V8 known as the 392 (470 hp, 470 lb-ft)
- 2021: Plug-in hybrid 4xe (375 hp, 470 lb-ft)
As usual, used four-door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited models from this generation are bigger and more capable than their two-door Wrangler counterparts. And they’re also more handsomely equipped, with standard power accessories and air conditioning.
There are four trim levels available: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon. The Sport includes all the basics, like standard four-wheel drive, a full-size spare tire, and the Uconnect infotainment system with a 5-inch touchscreen. Upgrade to the Sport S for more modern utility, including automatic headlamps, heated power mirrors, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. For greater style, check out the Sahara, which comes standard with a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and body-colored trim. Finally, the Rubicon is the best choice for ultimate off-roading, with its upgraded off-road tires, four-wheel drive with low-range gearing, and electronic front and rear locking differentials.
