This generation of Ford F-150 trucks revolutionized the game. Their new aluminum body panels created a much lighter truck. Paired with a reinforced steel frame, the F-150’s aluminum body style improved handling and lent itself toward heftier towing and hauling capabilities.
Compared to previous generations, the 13th-generation used F-150 also treats you to newer tech features. For example, Ford introduced the Sync 3 infotainment system for the 2016 model year. It improved user experience with increasingly intuitive menus and faster processing. Like the previous MyFord Touch infotainment system, Sync 3 also includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity.
This generation also throws in a few new performance systems. For example, pre-collision assist with automatic braking is available to help you avoid costly damages. The available Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of safety aids, which you’ll find on higher trim models, increases safety with features like blind-spot monitoring.
Throughout this generation, six main trim levels were available: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. For 2017, the off-road-ready Raptor rejoined the F-150 lineup.
At the outset, there were three engines available for these F-150 trucks, all of which were paired with a six-speed automatic transmission:
- 3.5L V6 (283 hp, 255 lb-ft)
- 5.0L V8 (385 hp, 387 lb-ft)
- Turbo 5.0L V6 (365 hp, 420 lb-ft)
For the 2018 model year, Ford revised the F-150 engine lineup. Except for the base 3.3-liter V6 engine, all of these newer engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission:
- 3.3L V6 (290 hp, 265 lb-ft) + six-speed automatic transmission
- Turbo 2.7L V6 (325 hp, 400 lb-ft)
- 5.0L V8 (395 hp, 400 lb-ft)
- Turbo 3.5L V6 (375 hp, 470 lb-ft)
- High-output Raptor 3.5L V6 (450 hp, 510 lb-ft)
A new turbo-diesel V6, designed to balance tow-friendly power with efficiency, arrived for the 2019 model year:
- Turbo 3.0L diesel V6 (250 hp, 440 lb-ft) + 10-speed automatic
