Overview
The Ford Edge is a midsize crossover that made its debut in 2006 as a 5 seater with quite a few upgrades and facelifts since. Initially built on the same platform as the Ford Fusion, the Ford Edge started out with a 3-bar chrome grille and unique headlights which saw a series of updates throughout the years. The following is a breakdown of the different powertrains, interior and exterior upgrades and trims across generations.
1st Generation: 2007-2009
Trims
The trims offered in the initial years of the Ford Edge are: S, SEL, Limited and Sport (added in 2009).
Power
This generation offers a single powertrain: a 3.5-liter V-6 paired to a 6-speed automatic that produces 265 horsepower and 250 lbs-ft of torque. It gets about 17 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway.
Interior/Exterior
The interior hosts a center stack on the dash with an infotainment system with physical knobs for climate control. Cloth upholstery is standard but leather with contrast stitching is also available. It also offers 32.2 cubic feet of cargo space and some basic safety features like front and side airbags and traction/stability control.
1st Generation: 2010-2014 Facelift
Trims
The trims remain the same during this refresh except the Limited now offers some optional features such as black leather seats, 22-inch aluminum wheels, adaptive cruise control, BLIS software and HID headlights.
Power
This refresh added two more engines on top of the base 3.5-liter to choose from: a 3.7-liter V-6 that produces 305 horsepower and a 2-liter Ecoboost inline-four that makes 240 hp. Both are paired to a 6-speed automatic and the first gets 27/19 mpg while the latter gets 30/21 mpg.
Interior/Exterior
New mounts on the subframe help reduce noise in the cabin and the Edge gets a facelift with a new grille and headlights. An 8-inch touchscreen was added and touch controls to replace the physical knobs. The Sport trim also gets a black grille and smoky exterior lighting elements.
2nd Generation: 2015-Present
Trims
This generation gets the following trims: SE, SEL, Titanium and ST. 2023 is slated to be the last year for this vehicle.
Power
The standard engine is a 2-liter Ecoboost that produces 245 horsepower and gets 22/27 mpg. Mid-level trims get a 3.5-liter V-6 with 280 hp and the top gets a 2.7-liter twin turbo Ecoboost with 315 hp and 19/26 mpg. All engines are paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission and can be had with available all-wheel drive. The Ford Edge can now tow 3,500 pounds and the V-6 was discontinued in 2019.
Interior/Exterior
For this generation, the wheelbase increased 1.2 inches and an exterior redesign for the grille and lighting elements. In fact, 2019 saw a honeycomb grille and sleeker exterior lighting on top of 9 new paint colors. Three new safety features were added: post-collision braking, evasive steering assist and adaptive cruise control. The Titanium adds 19-inch wheels, ambient lighting, sport seats and a 12-speaker system.
