Ford designed a new beast with a powerful frame and new powertrain to allow for larger payloads and heftier towing capabilities. The design stood out among the other F-series with a more prominent front end, raised hood and bolder lines. The trims were: X, XL, XLT and Lariat. The XLT was the most popular, giving customers a plethora of features at a reasonable price. These were offered as 2x2 SuperCab or standard and a 4x4 CrewCab. In terms of power, this generation offered three engines: a 5.4-liter V-8 (235 horsepower & tows 8,200 lbs), a Triton V-10 (310 hp & 11,600 lbs) and a 7.3-liter Diesel power stroke (235 hp & 14,600 lbs). 2005 saw a redesigned grille and locking tailgate.

This generation welcomed new features like a Rapid-Heat Supplemental Cab Heating system, a concealed slide-out step and a swing-up hand grab bar. The FX4 trim was also added to the lineup which included niceties like exclusive upholstery, a black leather steering wheel, remote keyless entry and more. The engines offered were the 6.4-liter power stroke diesel V-8 (350 hp & 12,500 lbs) while the 5.4-liter V-8 and 6.8-liter V-10 continued from the previous generation. As for technology, a new audio system, SYNC software, navigation and bluetooth were among the highlights.

This generation received a major refresh: a larger grille, bolder F-250 design and stronger engines. The trims were: X, XL, XLT, Lariat, Platinum and King Ranch. The 6.8-liter carried over from the last generation joined by a 6.2-liter Boss SOHC V-8 (385 hp) and a 6.7-liter power stroke turbodiesel V-8 (390 hp & 16,000 lbs). By 2015, towing capacity was an impressive 31,200 pounds and payload 4,920 pounds. Technology included: Sony sound system, color instrument screen, SYNC, navigation, dual A/C and trailer sway control.

This generation got another makeover that included a reinforced steel frame and aluminum body which reduced the curb weight by 700 pounds. Engine options remained the same except for an additional 7.3-liter (430 hp) added and so did the trim levels until the Limited joined the lineup. In 2020, the design was revised and the Super Duty was given a new grille, tailgate and wheels. The Tremor also made a comeback and the Pro Trailer Backup Assist debuted.
